The mild temperatures and fine weather contributed to an enjoyable time. Highlights included The Dweebs, who played the stage near our "beverage" areas, the wonderful people-watching opportunities, the "beads" giveaways at the UV booth and the Legendary Willie Nelson, who performed on opening night of the festival. Thank you also to those who volunteered for Summer Fest, which will be held on Saturday, August 30th. =============================================================================== New Kid On The Block The Chippewa Valley Theatre Guild is proud to announce that Kelly Kriesel, a UWEC Theatre major graduating this December, has been hired as Administrative Assistant for the Theatre Guild. Kelly just made her directing debut with this summer's production of Barnum and plans to pursue graduate studies with an emphasis in directing within the next few years. She loved directing Barnum and is looking forward to becoming a familiar face at the Guild office! Prior to discovering her love of directing, Kelly was found on stage in many university productions, including roles in Picnic, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and Picasso at Lapin Agile. She was even spotted last year in the Guild's third production of Tony 'n' Tina's Wedding. Kelly is filling the shoes of Emily McPeck, who is on her way to Arcata, California and Humboldt State University to begin Grad School in the department of Theatre and Film. We will miss her sunny smile, great disposition and love of theatre! =============================================================================== Goodbye Old Friend... The Theatre Guild bids a sad farewell to Henry Von Dem Bach who passed away this summer. Henry performed on stage during the 1980's in many memorable Theatre Guild productions, including Mame, Ruddigore, Little Mary Sunshine, Oklahoma, Oliver!, Curious Savage. Carousel, Fiddler on the Roof and Cinderella. He loved to sing and act but most of all Henry loved LIFE and lived it to the fullest. He was a systems coordinator for Northwest Fabric's national headquarters. He and his wife Kathy moved to Green Bay after he was transferred in the late 80's. Henry emigrated from Germany to the United States when he was around 20 years old. He was able to earn enough money to bring his younger brother to the U.S. a few years later. Henry was not only an actor, but was also a member of the Guild's Board of Directors and was more than happy to spend time recruiting new season ticket holders! He will be missed. =============================================================================== Northern Tours Offers Mile High Orchestra Trip Join Northern Tours as they travel to the new Heart Alive Auditorium Located in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota to hear Denver & the Mile High Orchestra. A big thank you goes out to the instructors Cheryl Starr, Jane Jeffries, Becky Mattson and Gloria Fant for all their hard work and dedication, and to all the Youth Drama Camp helpers, young and old! Over 160 boys and girls, ages 4 to 18 participated in classes ranging from acting to maskmaking to costuming to scenery and props. New acting classes for pre-schoolers and high schoolers rounded out an expanded 2003 class schedule. For participants in pre-school, K-2 and high school scene study classes, the last class allowed family members to have the chance to come in and watch the kids show off their new skills. The "technical" classes were all designed to give participants real hands-on experience working on sets, costumes, make-up and props. Each item the children designed and produced during class was used in the Drama Camp's production of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe in July. Auditions for the play were held in June and the directors, Cheryl Starr and Jane Jeffries were pleased to see 80 kids, ages 8-16, try out. The play was performed at Kjer Theatre for over 900 people, including nearly 500 children from area day cares. ===============================================================================
